Editorial & moderation guidelines

The rules we hold ourselves and contributors to.

Reporting

  • Every factual claim in a news post is attributed to a source listed with the post.
  • We prefer documents and named sources. When we use anonymous sources, we say why.
  • We ask companies for comment and say when they don’t respond.
  • We say what we don’t know yet.

Analysis and opinion

  • Analysis is labeled as analysis, at the top of the post and in every feed.
  • Analysis says what evidence would change the author’s mind.
  • Survey and research findings are described with their sample and source, not just a headline number.

Community posts

  • Contributors write about their own experience. We edit for clarity, not to change opinions.
  • Contributors disclose relevant relationships, such as working for or investing in a company they mention.
  • No vendor pitches presented as practitioner advice.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated note to the post explaining what changed. We don’t quietly edit factual errors.

Moderation

When responses open, we’ll remove:

  • Personal attacks, harassment, and discriminatory language.
  • Undisclosed promotion and spam.
  • Confidential information about people or companies shared without permission.

Disagreement, including with our editors, is welcome and won’t be removed for being critical.

These guidelines are a starting draft and will be revised before launch.
