Why SDR-to-marketing reorganizations keep happening, and what the evidence does and doesn’t say

The logic is tidy. The evidence that it improves pipeline is thinner than the announcements suggest.

Analysis. This piece contains the author’s interpretation. Where it relies on reporting, sources are listed below.

Northwind’s move (our report) follows a familiar argument: if most pipeline starts with marketing, the people who qualify it should report there too.

That argument is reasonable. What’s missing, in this case and most others we’ve looked at, is published before-and-after data. Companies announce the reorg; they rarely report what happened to meeting quality or conversion a year later.

What would change our mind

We’d want to see at least two quarters of stage-conversion data from before and after, from the same segment, with the same definition of a qualified meeting. If you work somewhere that made this change and can share numbers, even anonymized, we’d like to hear from you.

Until then, treat these reorgs as a reasonable bet, not a proven pattern.
